SCOTT MANCINELLI

Scott graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in political science in 1990 from Hope College in Holland, Michigan, and a Juris Doctor in 1994 from the University of Oregon School of Law in Eugene, Oregon.

Scott's Story

Upon graduating from law school, Scott practiced civil litigation, bankruptcy and employment law in Los Angeles and Orange County California until 2000, when he returned to West Michigan. Scott joined the law firm of Coupe, Van Allsburg & Pater, P.C., in 2000 where he practiced business litigation, consumer bankruptcy, personal injury, and criminal defense, until he joined the firm of Steven E. Bratschie & Associates, P.C., in December 2002 (now Bratschie& Born P.C.).  In July of 2014 he joined Hoesch & Vander Ploeg, P.L.C. to broaden their litigation and collections practice, before opening Mancinelli Goeman Law Group, PC with Dan Goeman. In 2014 he was a founding member of Michigan Receivable Management, LLC a debt purchasing company where he was Chief Purchasing and Compliance Officer.  His practice has covered a wide array of matters including complex commercial litigation, contract disputes, non-compete violations, business divorces, real estate litigation; employment and labor law, personal injury, medical malpractice, legal malpractice insurance subrogation, fraudulent conveyances, and bankruptcy matters.

 

Scott’s current area of emphasis is creditor’s rights and collections – he is a member of several industry groups including MCBA (Michigan Creditor’s Bar Association and the Receivable Management Association International. Scott is a member of the State Bars of Michigan and California as well as the Grand Rapids Bar Association. Scott has been admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit Court. His cases with published opinions include United States of America v. Brae Asset Fund, L.P. and Patrick J. Martin, 426 B.R. 720, 1354, Bankr. L. Rep. (CCH) P81747, 2010-1 U.S. Tax Cas. (CCH) P50278 (W.D. Mich. 2010) and Cadle Co. v. City of Kentwood, 285 Mich. App. 240 (Mich. Ct. App. 2009).  His article “The Sale of Real Property Pursuant to Judicial Levy in Michigan” was published in the Winter 2011 issue of the Michigan State Bar Litigation Newsletter, http://www.michbar.org/litigation/pdfs/winter_2011.pdf.

 

Scott has been on the case evaluation panels for Kent County since 2005 and Ottawa County since 2008. He served on the Board of Directors for the Community Health Center of Holland. Scott resides in Holland with his two daughters.
